Today in the Chicago area the temperature is not going to get above 60 when yesterday it was almost 80. So in that spirit, I have this picture from last fall…
So, I like trees. I think most of us like trees. Who doesn’t like trees? I’m no arborist. So I do not know what species of tree this is. But it’s majestic, it’s color was OVERPOWERING. Nope, not a good enough word… It’s color was EXPLOSIVE! The color was so powerful, that it overcame all detail. So, I dialed it back a bit. I like detail. 🙂
Only a few weeks after this, the tree was completely bare.
In my home suburb, Arlington Heights, they display holiday lights and scenes. This year they put up toy soldiers that made you think of The Nutcracker.
This was shot a few weeks ago during the morning blue hour and while it was snowing lightly. I really enjoyed these guys. They didn’t display them last year. The textures on his face is cool, and the glittery garland compared to the snow is a nice touch.
Just a word on editing. Some photographers insist on making snow always look white. I agree to this up to a point. In this case it really was blue hour. Where the sky is blue, and everything gets a blue tint to it. So, yes, the snow really does look blue in some cases. The soldiers are the subject, anyways, not the snow.
So much has been happening over the last few weeks! I have finally moved and just today I re-established my internet connection. It has been too long! Today’s photo is a panorama of the fountain in Arlington Height’s downtown district. They actually have a decent night life.
But these last three weeks has not just been about moving, but also about gearing up! I’ve been wanting to commit myself more and more to photography. I’ve had some successes here and there. It feels like I’m gathering more traction and slowly coming to realize an actual style of my own.
As part of this ‘gearing up’, I purchased a lens. This is the Sony E-mount 50mm lens for my NEX-7. It has been rated as the second sharpest *native* lens for this camera. I got it used for $200. New it’s worth $350. Many have said that it’s worth hundreds more compared to its competition.
So, I went on a walk in my new home town, hoping for some interesting things. I have to say that this fountain struck me. I knew that the water would come out looking real nice with a long exposure and I don’t think that the colored lights disappointed, either.
took this picture walking around a park district lake in Vernon Hills, IL. I must have ridden my bike around this little lake at least a thousand times (maybe ten thousand!).
It’s funny how things change. I didn’t really appreciate a tree like I do now.
I’m changing a little bit right now. I’m moving on Thursday to a new apartment. I bought a new laptop that will arrive tomorrow. I’m gearing up for an awesome vacation through the national parks in Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado.
Anyways, I know I haven’t been posting that much but the new laptop will cure that. I have another project I’m looking to start too.
